The 50 year old observatory was refurbished to house the institution's atmospheric and earth science research arm focused on the areas of climate change and disaster science.

Aware that the building is a piece of history, the designers carefully planned the refurbishment to minimize its effects and preserve the original structure and design.

Years and layers of paint were carefully stripped down to preserve and enhance the building's modernist lines and details.

No chipping and demolition work was made throughout the entire building. Even for the old electrical conduits that needs updating, a new electrical and network wiring system was run into a network of raceways and cable trays strapped on existing walls. All existing doors and windows were refurbished as well.
